Dirty GOP Tricks .. Why Am I Not Surprised?

By way of Matt Stoller of myDD

Terry Nelson, an unindicted co-conspirator in the TRMPAC Tom Delay scandal, and the boss of Jim Tobin, the convicted felon in the NH phone-jamming case, is the head of opposition research for the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee. So it's not a surprise that these kinds of unethical dishonest tactics are being used.

Sources in Bergen County are reporting that an autodial robocall is being made
that starts out sounding like a positive Bob Menendez message. If you hang up,
it repeatedly calls you back. If you listen all the way to the end, it finishes
by saying that Menendez is an embezzler and under criminal investigation.
This is a voter suppression tactic being used nationwide by the GOP.
Initially callers will think they are hearing a call from the Menendez campaign
asking for support. If they hang up, it will repeatedly call them back. The
intention is to annoy the voter so much that they no longer support the
candidate. For those who actually listen to the entire call, they are presented
with a series of lies and smears against Menendez, also with the intention of
suppressing turnout. It's a win-win tactic for them.
The NRCC is doing the same exact thing in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire
and at least 53 other races across the country.

Terry Nelson is a key GOP operative, a senior advisor to John McCain and
someone heavily involved with both Tom Delay and Karl Rove. This guy
breaks the law and gets rewarded for it. Democrats should make election reform a very core part of their agenda for a lot of reasons, but the rampant criminal nature of
the Republican operative class is a pretty good rationale.

I have never been convinced like some are about McCain's being a maverick, he is just another enabler of this administration.

As Matt says..
Fortunately, there's something you can do about this. You can get out into
the field and help candidates with GOTV. Go to Do More Than Vote, which has nice lists of opportunities to work, work, work.

Absolutely nothing surprises me anymore about dirty politics. What DOES surprise (and titilate) me is the number of gay-bashing Conservatives who are being caught with male lovers. Ooh, that gets me hot!

Great advice: get out into the field and do what you can! Facilitate voting; drive people who are unable to find their way to a polling booth, persuade friends, neighbors, acquaintances, colleagues exercise their vote.

You heard it first here - GOP is gonna do way better in elections than folks think. Here are the reasons why:
1.) The well-timed Saddam sentencing - c'mon, the trial was a joke, the sentencing was pre-planned to coincide 2 days before the election. Yayyyy! He got the death sentence so we are justified in invading Iraq!

2.) The wholy John Kerry episode. Enuff said. Well spun, you got to give it to the GOP for taking advantage of this remark.

3.) Lack of rhetoric from Dems: now is the time dammit, everybody is pissed off with GOP, if you want to win you should talk the talk. Not all voters are intelligent, smart and educated. That's how GOP wins. You talk the talk to the lowest common denominator.

4.) Diebold Electronic Voting machines. If the race is close, Dems don't have a chance. The electronic voting machines can do a lot of undetectable magic. To really topple GOP, a large majority based on polls should be predicted - enough to open an investigation into the voting machines. Right now all the polling agencies are backtracking .. which means nobody will bat an eyelid if Dems lost closely.

5.) Another interesting fact: gas prices have fallen by 80 cents since August. This is again a tried and tested tactic - massive reduction in gas prices right before election. It will be back up to 3 bucks in Jan if they win the election. Also shows how much power GOP has over the gas prices..
