Quick Takes..

Bias Out In The Open..

.. link

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) issued a letter to constituents earlier this month in which he declares, “I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States” if we do not adopt “strict immigration policies.” The letter was inadvertently sent to a local progressive activist, who shared it with the C-Ville Weekly newspaper.

In the letter, Goode references the election of Muslim Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), and warns “American citizens” to “wake up” or “there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office”:
I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.

Baby is sent through X-ray machine at LAX

A woman places her month-old grandson in a bin for carry-on items. Doctors later determine he did not get a dangerous dose of radiation.
By Jennifer Oldham, Times Staff Writer
December 20, 2006
A woman going through security at Los Angeles International Airport put her month-old grandson into a plastic bin intended for carry-on items and slid it into an X-ray machine.

The early Saturday accident — bizarre but not unprecedented — caught airport workers by surprise, even though the security line was not busy at the time, officials said.

A screener watching the machine's monitor immediately noticed the outline of a baby and pulled the bin backward on the conveyor belt.

The infant was taken to Centinela Hospital, where doctors determined that he had not received a dangerous dose of radiation.

Latte Art?

I kid you not. Many more at the link, one below.

LiLo?

I had no idea. So like Jennifer Lopez was/is referred to as JLo, Lindsay Lohan is referred to LiLo? Link here. Whatever!

Cool Ad..

They did this such that when you hold the newspaper up to light you see the wrinkles appear along with the sunsense bottle and bodycopy. This was done by printing them (wrinkles, bottle and bodycopy) on the other side of the page. Neat eh?

I'd be thrilled to have as few wrinkles as the lady in that ad. they should try it on someone over 40.

Yeah I thought she looked just fine. Of course, I like my laugh lines as I've mentioned. Just another product trying to convince us we have to look 20 for the rest of our lives. Btw, it doesn't work. Just look at Joan Rivers.

I read that article about the letter the Representative the other night. I was astounded. When did freedom of religion become only freedom for those who believe in the Bible and Christian teachings - which by the way most so-called Christians are obviously not following. And this guy refuses to apologize for his bigotry! It is a sad state of affairs.

Maybe Virgil Goode should be more specific...like, should we only elect Prebyterians, or Catholics, or those wacky Southern Baptist? How about Agnostics? Athiests? Wiccans? What if you're a tasty melange of Jewish and Lutheran? Huh Virgil?

I wonder if those representatives know that a lot of our founding fathers were not Christian. I'm so sick of pigheaded people.

Adam was telling me about the baby yesterday and I don't get it. Are we so overwhelmed that we can't function? Poor lady needs a full dose of meditation.

Hmm besides the fact that i am sitting there wondering how the kid's mom felt and how much she wanted to smack the grandma who did this
I remember, didnt you post something about the indian lady whose children's feet were scalded and all those comments directed at her being indian etc... i wonder what those same ppl have to say here.. are they gonna blame it on her race now?
derelict parental figures exist everywhere..and it still amazes me that they do

first time here - and have already blog-rolled you :) Hope thats ok.
On a serious note, God save America now. I cant imagine how - this melting pot of cultures has become so intolerant of those - who are unlike yourself. Today they are anti-Muslim, then anti-Arab, and God alone knows who next...

@Claire.. Crazy indeed or just confused maybe she had a language barrier too?

@Deepsat. ye funny ad.

@Meno.. I know what you mean.

@Maggie.. Ye those anti-wrinkle creams don't work, botox does but it also makes you look strange and as if parts of your face are frozen.
As for Rep. Goode. nothing good about him.

@Asha.. I wondered about the mom too.

@Mona... lol well put.

@Carrie.. Right! Some of them were non believers as well.

@Sai. Maybe she had a lnaguage barrier? But still pretty strange.

First time here and I love the blog! The latte art was amazing!
That was one great ad,the creativity in this ad field continues to amaze me!
Regarding the hue and cry by that politician about the muslim fear I feel they are driving the populations far apart by issuing such absurd statements and fueling things rather than helping to resolve the real issues. It's really sad.
I have no words to say about that lady who put the baby through the X-ray machine, what was she thinking?
