Are You On The Edge Of Your Seat People?
Biting your nails? The screenshot is of CNN's web page from about 10:30 AM this morning. The state of our mainstream news media makes me want to pound my head on the desk!
Somebody just shoot me please!!!

Update
Guess I ain't the only one who thinks that the American mainstream media has issues. From a piece on the Huffington post

Quote from the link above..

Interesting. This week, Time's cover story is an essay arguing
in favor of teaching the Bible in schools
, which can be boiled down to this:
"Of course the Bible should be taught in schools. Duh. It's religion that
shouldn't be." On the cover of its international edition is a story that is less
easily boiled down: "The Truth About Talibanistan," about the resurgence of the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan (and also, Pakistan), and how it's "the next battleground of the war on terrorism." The story is in the U.S. edition of the magazine but not on the American cover, presumably because Rick Stengel & co. think the Bible will do better newsstand (even though it is a singularly unattractive
cover).

I thought the very same thing when I saw my AOL opening page. What the heck have we come to that this is our news? Anna Nicole. American Idol. Lindsay. Britney. Time to move to Canada where they still get actual news.

Anna Nicole....shudder.

Thank is a fascinating bit of information about the time magazine cover. Marketing strikes again.

That, not thank. It's early here.

CNN these days seems like a gossip magazine! That is what I was saying to Arvind last week! It's shameful.

Mags do sell if it's about popular religion.I wouldn't pay and buy one if it is.I just had a visit from JW's again!!I feel like ripping my hair off right about now!;P

Most of the major news networks are just promoting sensationalism. Tabloid journalism at it's finest.

We caught the Tri-Fecta of bad journalism..this weekend, CNN, MSNBC, AND Fox all had Anna Nicole stories on at the same time. And endlessly. (pounding head on desk)

Taking a cue from Lucia's comment I decided to check out what the Canadian news stations had to say. CTV had the following as their top stories:

Ont. lottery agency needs oversight

Quebec party leaders cast ballots after tight race

Accused Egyptian-Canadian spy verdict delayed

Anna Nicole died of accidental drug OD: autopsy

'Ask a Ninja' and OK Go win YouTube Awards

I guess there's no escaping the Anna Nicole news is there?

Even dead we can't escape her.

Interesting magazine covers.

Well I personally think that the demise of poor Anna all happened due to her lack of Bible knowledge and if we just focused more on better family values, maybe she wouldn't have had such a tragic life.

(Did I pronounce everything right? I had my tongue stuck in my cheek.)

God forbid anyone in America should be reminded that we never actually finished the job in Afghanistan...

@Lotus.. Thank you for your comment and taking the time to see what you folks are up to North of the border and also for the links .:-)
I checked them out. The focus of the news does seem to be a lot broader no?
We look at you folks as somewhat kinder, gentler and more sensible. Don't dispel that notion ;-)
Also ANS is ubiquitous.. sigh!
Again thank you for the links.

I'll never understand why anything with Anna Nicole is breaking news. And the traditional media wonders why people turn to blogs!!

ah...so it is not just Indian media going to the dogs. The only newspaper that is currently above this crap is The Hindu - I swear by it - but it has a crappy online prescence unfortunately. Wouldn't put it past the channels and the newspapers to cook up a news item to increase TRPS/Readership. Teaching the bible in school is definitely convoluted and just a bit twisted, don't you think?
